SN7.16 — The Discourse on Opposition
Originating in Sāvatthī.
At that time, a brahmin named Paccanīkasāta was living in Sāvatthī.
Then it occurred to Paccanīkasāta the brahmin: Why don't I approach the ascetic Gotama? Whatever the ascetic Gotama says, I will oppose it.
At that time, the Blessed One was walking in the open air.
Then Paccanīkasāta the brahmin approached the Blessed One; having approached, he said to the Blessed One who was walking: Speak, ascetic.
It is not easy for one with an opposing mind, to understand well-spoken words;
With a mind corrupted, and full of hostility.
But one who has dispelled hostility, and has a calm mind;
Having abandoned resentment, that one can understand well-spoken words.
Having been spoken thus, Paccanīkasāta the brahmin said to the Blessed One:
Excellent, Master Gotama, excellent, Master Gotama...
May Master Gotama consider me a lay follower from this day forth, who has gone for refuge for life.
