SN15.11 — Duggatasutta
At one time, the Blessed One was residing in Sāvatthī. There, he addressed the disciples, saying:
Disciples, the cycle of existence (saṁsāra) is without a beginning. The first point of origin is not discernible for beings who are enveloped in ignorance and bound by craving, as they wander and cycle through existence.
What should be seen as unfortunate and difficult to bear? It is this: We too have experienced such suffering and hardship for a long time.
What is the reason for this?
Disciples, it is sufficient to be disenchanted with all formations, to be dispassionate, and to be liberated.
